La Vida’s aim is to share our love for the life, vitality & passion of Flamenco. It is a wonderful art form full of fascinating rhythms, light & shade (sol y sombre) swirling skirts, resonating guitars, all evoking dark magical nights in taverns or smoky bars. Romantic notions aside, it is still hugely dynamic, creative and exhilarating.

To further this love, La Vida holds regular dance classes & fiestas. Organises performance groups for corporate & private functions, as well as having mounting theatre shows. Creative choreography for special functions & Flamenco costume design.

La Vida was started by Rubi Bueno in the mid ‘80s upon her return to Sydney from Spain. Rubi did this to sustain her passion for the dance & to impart the knowledge she has. Rubi enjoys the Gitana style of Jerez most, but teaches traditional & varied styles to meet the needs of her pupils.

John Cassidy
John Cassidy was encouraged to take up playing the guitar in his teens by his father who was a great flamenco aficionado. John has played with various groups and toured the country extensively. Recently he has been performing with Arab musicians in a fusion group… following along one of the roots of Spanish music.
He is interested in fostering the art and assisting those musicians interested in developing in the flamenco idiom.
John offers private tuition by appointment or in class tuition for guitarists with flamenco training and a sound knowledge of "compas".

Rubi Bueno
Flamenco has been my abiding passion since I was sixteen. At that time it was rare to find an interesting teacher or even a teacher at all. Sometimes friends or visiting performers would show you a step or two and you’d go as often as possible to any shows in order to absorb as though by osmosis any detail or idea to work on later.
Rubi Bueno
When possible I studied with various teachers both here and in Spain; Including Belen Maya, Rafaela Carrasco, Lola Greco, Isabel Bayon, Merche Esmeralda & Rafael Campallo to name a few. I started teaching Flamenco 1987  upon returning from Spain. It keeps the art alive for me & I really enjoy seeing other people develop.
I have mounted several theatre shows in the style of dance dramas, based on Lorca’s play La Casa de Bernarda Alba and La Fiesta de Picasso using his painting periods as a reference point These were performed in both Sydney & Canberra by the La Vida performance group. The group has also performed cabaret shows in various venues in Sydney, Newcastle & Canberra.
